Harry Podmorow and Walter Perepelkin - Custom Built Cedar Lined Closet
The grant funding received from the 2010 Community Initiatives CBT program ($5,100) the CCUB Trust Fund ($400) and a $2,000 donation from Peter and Elsie Rezansoff, enabled the CIS to build a cedar armoire for the storage of Doukhobor heritage textiles. The project was realized through the skilled craftsmanship of two local carpenters, Harry Podmorow and Walter Perepelkin, who designed and custom-built the cedar-lined closet.
It was a great honor to do this project for the ladies of the USCC Cultural Interpretive Society. It was quite intricate for us as there were no plans or sketches of how it should look or how to build it, except by the "wave of a hand" indicating an idea! We went to several places to find some materials that would fit into this plan. Lining this armoire with aromatic cedar was another challenge. Anyway, we did the best we could. We would also like to mention that we are very fortunate to have all these ladies in our community, or we must say a bigger community, who are putting in their time doing all that work. Thank You, Ladies. - Harry and Walter.
